Dear Councilmember Harmon, A recent environmental report detected PFAS pesticides in surface waters across California, including the Santa Maria River and Oso Flaco Creek in Santa Barbara County. These findings raise serious health concerns about the presence of 'forever chemicals' in our local water sources. A bill is currently progressing through the California legislature aiming to phase out PFAS pesticides by 2035, which is a necessary step to protect our environment and public health. As a resident of Santa Barbara and someone who pays taxes here, I’m deeply worried about the implications of these chemicals on our water supply. This issue isn't just an abstract concern; it affects everyone who relies on these water sources for drinking and recreation.
