Santa Barbara short-term rental ordinance vote

Dear Kristen Sneddon, On June 9, 2026, the Santa Barbara Ordinance Committee approved a revised short-term rental ordinance that includes a ban on short-term rentals and homeshares in high fire hazard areas, a minimum two-night stay requirement, and the removal of the on-site parking requirement. This ordinance aims to prioritize long-term housing over transient use, aligning with the City Council's direction and the Housing Element’s Program HE-19 for 2023-2031. The City Council is set to consider this ordinance on September 15, 2026. As a resident of Santa Barbara who pays taxes here, I recognize the importance of this ordinance in addressing the housing crisis we face. The growing prevalence of short-term rentals has exacerbated the shortage of affordable housing, making it increasingly difficult for families and individuals to find stable places to live. This ordinance could be a crucial step toward ensuring our community's long-term housing needs are met.
